Karim Benzema agrees to extend Real Madrid contract

The 35-year-old is out of contract at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer and is considering his options after a career in the Spanish capital.

But the current Ballon d’Or winner, who scored the winner for Real Madrid in a 1-0 win over Liverpool on Wednesday night, has secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Agree on a 12-month contract.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is understood to have urged the club to agree a new deal with Benzema, despite concerns elsewhere over his age, saying over the weekend: “We have to think about Benzema’s age, but also what he brings. He is one of our nine. He did well at the beginning of the season and he will do well next season.

“For me, Karim has been a Real Madrid player all my life, I’m sure what will happen next year.”

Benzema is one of the best footballers in recent history. In addition to winning his Ballon d’Or in 2022, he has won the Champions League five times, with Real Madrid winning four La Liga titles and 14 domestic and continental tournaments.
